Among the Nominees at the Cinema for Peace Gala 2011
Movies can make a difference: At the 10. Cinema for Peace Gala on February 14 in Berlin outstanding cinematic work which highlights the human condition and human values will be honoured with the Cinema for Peace Awards. The Cinema for Peace Award for the Most Valuable Movie of the Year is selected by an independent international jury comprised of 100 film journalists, humanitarians, directors and other public figures, such as former French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing, human rights activist
Bianca Jagger, Participant-founder Jeff Skoll and members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The BaKaFORUM preselection, organized by SWR, took place from December 15 – 17, in Baden-Baden. The preselection jury from Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands selected the nominees from among the 97 excellent entries, submitted by broadcasters from Armenia to the USA. The BaKaFORUM competition nominees for school/youth and adults will be presented in a guided screening Best of Cross-Media@BaKaFORUM 2011 on January 28, in Basel.

The Forum brings together the major actors of an issue related to development and the major challenges of the future.

It organizes high level televised roundtables, a documentary film competition and screenings, exhibitions and special evenings. The aim: to offer our participants and public the maximum possibilities of achieving a better understanding a given issue. The Forum addresses both the media and specialists, the youth and a broad public.

As Russia’s worst drought in 130 years continues to ignite catastrophic wildfires and ravage crops across the country, real estate developers are poised to bulldoze an incredibly valuable crop collection near St. Petersburg in order to build luxury houses on the land.

The take-over would involve bulldozing field collections amassed over the last century that contain thousands of varieties of apples, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, currants and other crops, 90 percent of which are not found anywhere else in the world.
